Let's Go and Learn: Young Jews for Sanctions against Israel

Let’s Go and Learn

Dear Piotr,  Thank you for supporting the Young, Jewish, and Proud (YJP) declaration.  We are excited to announce a new initiative, which has grown out of countless conversations throughout YJP, the youth adult wing of Jewish Voice for Peace.
It is time for the Jewish community to seriously engage with Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), the Palestinian-led global, nonviolent movement for Palestinian rights. Many Jewish activists see BDS as a growing, effective strategy to achieve long term peace with justice, yet it remains the unspoken “elephant in the room” in most mainstream Jewish spaces.
This is why YJP is developing a nationwide project to initiate open conversations and educational programming around BDS within Jewish communities.  We are inspired by Hillel the Elder, who famously said in the Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 31a:
“That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.”

Go & Learn BDS Education events
are a way for Jews to develop their own opinion on BDS, in an informed, multifaceted way. We invite you to join us whether you have never heard of the BDS movement, know a little about it, are actively opposed to it, or you are already supporting the Palestinian call for BDS.
If this initiative resonates with you, we would love to help you bring Go & Learn to your local community or campus. We are committed to providing training about how to conduct outreach and facilitate a conversation about BDS in your community.  Please save the date for Wednesday, December 14th at 5:30 PST/8:30 EST.  The Go & Learn Outreach Committee is conducting an online training for all potential event coordinators and/or supporters. To RSVP for the call, please reply to this message or email golearn@jewishvoiceforpeace.org.
Love and Learning,
Liza  Behrendt, Young, Jewish, and Proud
