A large Russian naval flotilla heads for Tartus, Syria

A flotilla of 12 to 15 Russian warships carrying marines is on its way to Tartus, Syria from North Sea Baltic and Black Sea bases. DEBKAfile: They include an anti-submarine vessel and the aircraft carrier Admiral Chabanenko, three landing craft carrying marine units and an escort of two logistic ships. Wednesday, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov meets a visiting delegation of the opposition Syrian National Council in Moscow.
