Forward this: Open Letter to Obama

Sign the Open Letter to Obama: US aid to Israel should be contingent on compliance with the law.

Dear Piotr

I teared up when I heard President Obama talk in his re-election speech about moving beyond war, “to shape a peace that is built on the promise of freedom and dignity for every human being.”
He articulated beautifully the hopes and dreams of people of every faith and nation– including Palestinians, who have lived under occupation and repression for too long. Israelis too long for a true peace.
But it must be built on fairness.
I believe President Obama understands what must be done to reach a just resolution —but he failed to act because of domestic politics and threats by Israel Lobby groups.
And yet, after Tuesday’s election, I’m more energized than ever.
That’s because we know that Obama’s re-election is a chance to re-set our course on Israel and Palestine. The political calculus has changed and many of those threats turned out to be empty. And the terms of debate are changing every day. What was impossible yesterday becomes possible today.
But we must act together and we must act fast. The inauguration is only a few months away and we want to send a strong message that we will deliver in person.
Will you sign this open Letter to President Obama asking him to make sure US aid to Israel is conditioned on compliance with US and international law?

We’ve put together a growing coalition of Jews, Christians, Muslims and human rights and solidarity activists all asking President Obama for one thing—to make sure aid to Israel doesn’t violate US laws which specifically prohibit assistance to any country which engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations.
By delivering thousands of your signatures to President Obama by his inauguration we can send the message that no aid should ever be unconditional.
